Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said on Thursday that Ashura lessons “guide us in our righteous strive for our people’s rights”.
Khatibzadeh made the remarks writing on his personal Twitter account on the occasion of the anniversary martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS), the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and the third Shia Imam, in Karbala some 14 centuries ago, on a day known as Ashura.
Ashura’s solemn messages of sacrifice for values and truth, dignified resistance against tyranny, and insistence on moral principles have resonated throughout history and inspired freedom and justice-seeking consciences, he went on to write.
