US President Donald Trump has once again warned that he could win the Afghanistan war within days by just killing millions of people in the conflict-ridden country, in what experts warn is another sign of Trump’s willingness to use weapons of mass destruction.
The warning came on Friday, as Trump hailed the “progress” his negotiators had made in alleged peace talks with the Taliban militant group.
“We’ve made a lot of progress. We’re talking,” the US president told reporters at the White House.
Trump said American forces, who have been bogged down in Afghanistan for 18 years, “could win Afghanistan in two days or three days or four days, but I’m not looking to kill 10 million people.”
In a similar comment in July, Trump repeated remarks, prompting warnings in some circles that he could be speaking about using nuclear weapons.
On Saturday, however, he specified that no nuclear weapons would be involved, saying, “I’m talking conventional.”
