Three Islamic State terrorists were killed Saturday in an airstrike on a terrorist hotbed in Diyala, a well-placed provincial official said.
Sadeq al-Husseini, the head of the Security Committee in Diyala Provincial Council, said that Iraqi warplanes targeted a hotbed of Islamic State in al-Waqf basin, northeast of Baquba, leaving three terrorists dead.
The airstrike was launched following close coordination between the Iraqi Air Force and Intelligence Service, he added.
In January 2015, Iraqi forces announced the liberation of Diyala province from Islamic State extremist who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.
The province has seen months of fighting between Iraqi troops and IS militants especially in the Jalawla and Saadiyah areas in the province’s north and areas near the town of Muqdadiyah.
