Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi on Thursday called for the speedy completion of the budget for the year 2020 and submitted it to parliament as soon as possible.
After the expanded meeting of the Financial Budget Preparation Committee for 2020, Abdul-Mahdi stressed his desire to increase payments in a way that boosts the economy and provide services projects to provide job opportunities.
Abdul-Mahdi said there were 989 projects lagging behind at 17 billion dollars, and that halting projects was dangerous and increased unemployment.
He said there were 13 trillion Iraqi dinars in advance. He pointed out that the new budget aims to make radical reforms.
He said previous budgets had not seen any proper rationalization of expenditures. Stressing his quest to provide a good budget for the House of Representatives as soon as possible.

Abdul-Mahdi’s media office said in a statement that the latter “presided over the expanded meeting of the Committee on the preparation of the financial budget for 2020,” noting that “the meeting was reviewed during which the lagging projects that led to the loss of huge funds and jobs and produced large unemployment, and stalled projects returned to work, and discussed many Related economic, financial and investment issues.
Abdul Mahdi, according to the statement, “the importance of the public budget in the lives of citizens, the country and the economy,” pointing out that it (the budget) “is not only figures and any imbalance in them lead to an imbalance in economic progress, health, education and others.”
He added, “We are working to find a budget capable of managing the economy properly and increase non-oil resources, and to begin serious reforms and adjustments necessary for all outstanding and thorny financial problems in a national and equitable spirit,” directing “the need for monitoring and accounting for performance and implementation, and the continuation of the meetings of the Budget Committee to accelerate Completed and submitted to the House of Representatives as soon as possible. “
