Merkel warns of corporate immigration from Germany due to a shortage of skilled workers

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has warned of corporate migration from Germany due to a shortage of skilled workers.
Merkel said in her weekly televised message on the Internet Saturday: “We know many workshops and factories that are urgently searching for skilled workforce … So it is necessary that we seek to provide adequately skilled labor, otherwise companies will be forced to emigrate from the country – and this we do not want, of course. ”

Merkel mentioned that the law of attracting skilled workers, which will enter into force on the first of next March, must be applied effectively and quickly, and said: “Without enough skilled labor, an economic center cannot succeed … On the one hand, we of course want to take advantage of our local potential in the hands. Working by providing good training to all people as possible, on the other hand, attracting skilled workers from the European Union to Germany. ”

Merkel indicated that there are already 2.5 million European Union citizens working in Germany, and said: “But this alone will not suffice, so we must strive to attract skilled workers from outside the European Union as well.” She explained that this is what Monday’s meeting will revolve around. .

The German government is scheduled to hold a summit with the states, the economic community, and trade unions in the Chancellery Court in Berlin next Monday to discuss attracting specialized workers from abroad.

Merkel explained that the German government provided legal frameworks for that through the law attracting skilled foreign workers, and said: “But now we must also find in the world the individuals who are ready to come to Germany,” noting that the meeting will discuss ways to expedite the granting of visas.

Merkel said that there must be a smooth flow of information from German companies to countries with skilled workers, and added: “There must also be clarity about the conditions that must be met in order to work or train in Germany.”
