US Embassy in Baghdad issued a security alert for its citizens in Iraq, asking them to avoid approaching the embassy where Hashd al-Shaabi (PMF) supporters are gathering.
The alert comes hours after hundreds of pro-Iran Hashd al-Shaabi members and supporters attempted to storm the US Embassy in Baghdad’s Green Zone, burning one of the entrance gates.
“Due to ongoing protest activity, U.S. citizens should not approach the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. Americans should review their personal security and emergency preparedness,” reads the alert published on the embassy’s official Facebook page.
“We will continue to provide updates on this account as necessary.”
Hashd al-Shaabi supporters are asking for the US leave after airstrikes hit multiple Kataib Hezbollah positions earlier this week. Kataib Hezbollah is an Iraqi group operating under the umbrella of Hashd al-Shaabi.
