A senior source from the Iraqi Shia Fatih Alliance (Conquest Alliance) has rejected recent media reports which claimed that the Shia majority factions are working on the return of Adil Abdul Mahdi, the caretaker prime minister who handed in his resignation last November.
Struggling over consensus about a successor for Abdul Mahdi, previous reports speculated that there can be the possibility of his return to the office.
Al-Sumariya News cited an anonymous source on Sunday who refuted the reports of any agreement between the major Shia parliamentary blocs, mainly between Fatih Alliance and Sairoon.
Following weeks of anti-government protests across Iraq — which are still ongoing — Abdul Mahdi handed in his resignation on 30 November 2019.
