Strikers who reject the pension reform issued by the French government blocked on Wednesday the ports of Le Havre, Rouen, Nantes-Saint-Nazaire, La Rochelle and Marseille.
This measure is part of the strike called by trade unions, political and social organizations against the government´s initiative, a demonstration that entered its forty-second day on Wednesday.
According to the Franceinfo portal, the traffic in Le Havre port works too slowly, in Rouen traffic jams are reported, in Nantes, the ships are waiting at sea, in La Rochelle, the situation is too complicated, and in Marseille dockers and sailors have closed accesses.
The so-called ‘dead ports operation’ started last night and would continue for three days.
The blockade of these vital facilities for the economy of any country is part of the new actions called in rejection of the pension reform by the Intersindical, a movement made up of the General Confederation of Labor (CGT), Fuerza Obrera (FO), the United Federation of Trade Unions (FSU) and Solidarios, among others.
The three days of mounting pressure on the government to withdraw its plan will finish on Thursday with a national mobilization, the sixth since the strike began on December 5.
On December 5, 10 and 17, and on January 9 and 11, hundreds of thousands of French people took to the streets to demand the elimination of the bill consisting of setting up a universal points-based system.
