Iraq confirms first death from coronavirus in Kurdistan region

Iraq’s Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Health on Wednesday confirmed that a 63-year-old man died after he tested positive for coronavirus.

The man, said to be an Islamic preacher, was from Sulaymaniyah where five other people are diagnosed with the new virus COVIT-19.

Family sources said that he was also suffering from heart diseases and that he experienced health problems after being informed about his coronavirus tests.

A deputy director of Sulaymaniyah health directorate confirmed the death, added that the man was found infected after the first medical test in Kurdistan, but he died before the results for additional tests came out in Baghdad.

Therefore, the official said, they cannot confirm that the man died from coronavirus without his previous health problems having any role.
