The Crisis Cell of the Iraqi parliament is considering the announcement of a state of emergency in the country as the new coronavirus further spreads.
MP Hassan Kaabi, deputy speaker and head of the crisis cell, said in a statement that Iraq is still under a serious threat of pandemic disease.
He revealed that a plan for imposing a state of emergency has been set. However, it was not clear if the parliament will announce the plan any time soon.
According to Kaabi, Iraq is struggling with multiple challenges in its health sector in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, among them is having only four laboratories for COVID-19 tests.
A total of 1,045 cases of coronavirus has been recorded in Iraq (excluding the Kurdistan Region). The death toll is at 74.
