The Chinese Foreign Ministry said today, Wednesday, that customs duties should not be used as a weapon, after US President Donald Trump threatened last week with new customs duties as a punitive measure in response to Beijing’s handling of the Corona virus crisis.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying told reporters in a daily press briefing that customs duties generally hurt all parties concerned. She stressed that the United States should stop laying its responsibilities regarding Covid-19 to others, and described the accusations that America made to China over the “Corona” outbreak, intentionally, as baseless, according to “Reuters” reported.
US President Donald Trump earlier this month threatened to impose new fees on Beijing, in response to the outbreak of the emerging Corona Virus pandemic.
He told reporters: “We signed a commercial agreement where they are supposed to buy, and they are buying a lot, in fact. But now it is secondary to what happened with the virus.” “The status of the virus is not entirely acceptable,” he added.
Asked if he was considering stopping the United States making payments on its debt obligations as a way to punish Beijing, Trump said, “Well, I can do it differently. I can do the same thing, but even for more money, just by setting up fees, so You don’t have to. ”
Trump also called on China to deal transparently with what it knows about the origin of the Coronavirus, which appeared in the Chinese city of Wuhan and then spread throughout the world.
