WHO: “Deep concern” of increasing domestic violence in Europe during quarantine

The director of the European branch of the World Health Organization, Hans Klug, said today, Thursday, that the organization expresses “deep concern” over reports of the increase in family violence in the continent recently.

Clog added that some countries indicated that 60 percent of women had experienced domestic violence, while the number of phone lines dedicated to reporting domestic violence had quadrupled since the outbreak began.

“If the isolation measures continue for another six months, we expect to record 31 million additional incidents of violence against women.”

Klug urged all European countries to take special measures to solve the problems of domestic violence, noting the efforts of Spain, Italy and other countries that facilitated the procedures for reporting incidents of violence against women.
