The Iraqi judiciary directs the release of the detained protesters

Today, Sunday, the Supreme Judicial Council of Iraq directed the release of detained protesters at the invitation of Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhemi.

He said in a press statement, “In line with Al-Kadhemi’s call, we sent all the courts that are presenting cases related to the demonstrators to release them.”

He added that “the Supreme Judicial Council had previously instructed the investigating judges to release those arrested on the subject of the demonstration, given that demonstrations are a right guaranteed under Article 38 of the Constitution, provided that it is not accompanied by an act contrary to the law against state institutions or against persons.”
