Baghdad calls for complete lockdown after escalated Corona infections

The Governor of Baghdad, Muhammad Jaber Al-Ata called on Thursday the federal government to impose a complete lockdown in the capital until after Eid Al-Fitr days, as a result of the escalating number of people affected by Corona pandemic.

This came after an emergency meeting of the Crisis Cell in Baghdad in the presence of his technical deputy, Ali Al-Ithawi, the Director-General of Baghdad Health Department, Rusafa Dr. Abdul Ghani Al-Saadi, and the Director-General of Baghdad Health department, Al-Karkh, Dr. Jasb Latif.

Al –Atta waved in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, to “Losing control if the infections continue to increase, especially since Ibn Al-Khatib Hospital has been completely filled as well as Ibn Al-Qaf Hospital, which may be filled with patients soon during the next two days, which means allocating a number of hospitals designated only for those infected with corona.”

The governor attributed the increasing number of infections to “citizens’ non-commitment to the curfew, safety rules and instructions of the health authorities,” noting that “discussions were held during the meeting to allocate new areas and buildings to be used either for the infected patients or for isolating people in contact after being furnished and equipped with the health requirements.”

Al-Atta stressed the Supreme Committee for Health and Safety “takes the decision to complete curfew as the only way to save the capital, Baghdad, from the pandemic.”
