Islamic State (ISIS) elements set today fire to wheat and barley farms in the vicinity of Khanaqin, northeast of Diyala.
ISIS burned farms for wheat and barley crops in “Al-Awamer” village in Qara Tepah suburb of Khanaqin district, noting that firefighting and civil defense vehicles rushed to the scene to put out the fire.
The source added that the losses were not yet clear and that firefighting teams and security services continue to extinguish the fire amid a heavy security deployment in the vicinity of the accident to avoid any armed attack.
Since last April, ISIS burned many wheat and barley farms in Al-Atheem, Khanaqin, Muqdadiyah, Jalwla and Mansuriyah regions, as part of its annual war on “wheat” to hit the local economy and destabilize security.
