A spokesperson for the Ford Motor Group said that putting on a protective mask is mandatory at a company plant in Michigan is scheduled to be visited by Donald Trump on Thursday, adding that it was up to the White House to determine whether the president should put one.
The Republican billionaire has so far refused to put a mask public, despite recommendations from the US health authorities.
“Our policy requires that everyone must put in place personal protective equipment to prevent the spread of Covid 19,” said a Ford spokeswoman. “We discussed our security protocols (…) with the White House while preparing for the tour,” she added.
It is up to the White House and President Trump to decide whether to wear a mask during his scheduled visit to the Ford plant in Ypsilanti, Michigan, which is a decisive state in the November presidential election.
This site was re-adapted in April as an artificial respirator production plant as part of a partnership between Ford and General Electric.
Trump sparked controversy during two previous visits to manufacturers after he appeared without a mask while everyone around him was putting one. Donald Trump has never been photographed wearing a mask.
