The general manager of the Iraqi Ports Company said, “The incident of the sinking of the Iranian ship (Behbehan) at the entrance of Khor Abdullah, Basra has no effect on maritime traffic.”
He added, “It is believed that the cause of the sinking of the vessel loaded with (ceramic) material is poor loading. Four of its crew were rescued and the body of one of the sailors was recovered.”
On Thursday, an Iranian ship was drowned in Iraqi territorial waters outside the entrance of the Khor Abdullah channel in Basra.
An informed source said that “the ship bears the name (Behbehan) and the accident occurred at exactly eleven o’clock before midnight tonight,” noting that “Iraqi rescue ships rushed to rescue them and retrieved four people from their crew who were alive.”
He pointed out that “the search operations are still going on for five others believed to be among the dead.” He added, “Initial reports indicate that the causes of drowning are due to poor loading and deteriorating weather conditions.”
