China opposes the extension of the arms embargo on Iran

The Chinese foreign minister stressed that Beijing is guarding the credibility of the UN Security Council resolutions and the nuclear agreement and will not agree to US measures in an attempt to extend the arms embargo on Iran.

The Chinese Representative Office at the United Nations announced on its Twitter page yesterday evening that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi renewed, in a letter to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, the rotating president of the Security Council and the delegate of France, Nicholas de Ruyer, renewed China’s position in support of the nuclear agreement. Iran, confirming his country’s commitment to effectively maintain UN Security Council Resolution 2231 and the nuclear agreement.

Wang added: All provisions of Security Council Resolution 2231 should be implemented in a serious and honest manner, including the arrangements related to the arms embargo, pointing out that America is no longer a member of the nuclear agreement, and it has no right to ask the Security Council to activate the re-embargo mechanism.

The Chinese foreign minister stressed that the only way forward is to effectively implement and protect the nuclear agreement.
