The US has made “remarkable progress” in dealing with coronavirus, Mike Pence has said, despite a record rise in daily case numbers and more than 120,000 deaths across the country.
Speaking at the first press conference held by the US coronavirus task force in nearly two months, the Vice-President told reporters that Americans could take comfort from slowing fatality rates from the virus.
But he acknowledged that the country still has “work to do”, with cases rising rapidly in 16 states in the south of the country.
His comments come after new coronavirus cases hit an all-time high in the US, causing Texas and Florida to bring back some lockdown measures.
