Donald Trump has again made the desperate assertion that the coronavirus will “sort of just disappear, I hope” in an interview with Fox Business, also making a U-turn on face masks on the grounds that he believes they make him look like the vintage Western hero the Lone Ranger.
His top infectious diseases expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, has meanwhile issued a fresh caution on the pandemic, telling the BBC: “What we have seen over the last several days is a spike in cases that are well beyond the worst spikes that we have seen. We have got to get that under control, or we risk an even greater outbreak in the United States.”
New cases of Covid-19 shot up by nearly 50,000 in the US on Wednesday, marking the biggest one-day increase since the virus reached its shores as states put the breaks on reopening.
