France Football, the magazine behind the annual Ballon d’Or award, have announced that the prize will not be handed out this year.
The decision comes due to the complications caused by the coronavirus pandemic, which put a halt or cancelled the major football leagues.
It’s the first time since 1956 that the Ballon d’Or will not be awarded.
“There will be no edition in 2020, because it turns out, after thoughtful consideration, that all the conditions are not met,” Pascal Ferre, editor-in-chief of France Football, said in a statement.
