Eid Al-Adha celebrations were overshadowed this year by the gloom of COVID-19 pandemic and the curfew imposed by the government to curb its spread.
COVID-19 has stripped the Eid from the joy this year, especially for children who wait the entire year to enjoy the “swings” and other Eid games, which represent their joy despite everything.
However, anguish comes today to replace the rites of joy and its beloved customs. Playgrounds and parks are empty of the young angels hovering around them with their bright clothes.
Baghdad, on the first day of the holiday, was almost empty. The Few pedestrians roaming the streets are only health personnel, members of the security forces, and journalists.
As the Iraqi government imposed a comprehensive curfew throughout the days of Eid al-Adha as a precaution to prevent gatherings in light of the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the streets of Baghdad became almost empty, instead of being full of people celebrating the holiday.
