Biden Leads Trump in Three Battleground States That the President Won in 2016: Poll

Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden currently leads President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, three key battleground states that Trump won during the 2016 election.

The poll, which was conducted by the University of Wisconsin/YouGov, surveyed 800 voters in each of the three states from July 27 to August 6.

According to the poll, in Pennsylvania, 50 percent of respondents said they would vote for Biden if the election were held today, compared to 41 percent that would vote for Trump. Among the remaining percentages, two percent said other and five percent said not sure. In Pennsylvania, the poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.85 percentage points.

In Wisconsin, the poll found Biden holding a six-point lead over Trump, as 49 percent of respondents said they’d vote for the former vice president and 43 percent sided with Trump. Three percent said they would vote for another candidate and 4 percent said they were not sure, the poll found. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.86 percentage points in Wisconsin.

The poll found Biden holding a slightly smaller lead in Michigan, as 47 percent said they’d vote for him, compared to 43 percent that said, Trump. In Michigan, the poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 5.05 percentage points. Among the remaining percentages, three percent said other candidates would get their vote and six percent said they were not sure who to vote for.

During the 2016 election, Trump beat Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in each of these three battleground states. According to Ballotpedia.org, Trump won Pennsylvania and Wisconsin by .7 points, respectively, and Michigan by .2 points.

The poll also asked respondents in each of the three states if they were more likely to vote in person or by mail.

According to the poll, a majority of voters in Pennsylvania (62 percent) and Wisconsin (54 percent) said they plan on voting in person, while 47 percent of respondents in Michigan agreed.

In comparison, a majority of respondents in Michigan (53 percent) said they plan on voting by mail, compared to 38 percent of Pennsylvania respondents and 46 percent of Wisconsin respondents agreeing.

In addition to holding a lead over Trump in each of these three battleground states, several national polls show the Biden ahead of the president.
