Iraqi Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee, on Friday, asked the Turkish government to open an investigation into the racist attack on an Iraqi family.
The head of the committee, Sherko Mirwais, said in a statement, “An Iraqi family from the Kurdistan region has been subjected to racist assault and attempted murder by beating stones and insulting by a racist group in the Turkish city of Mersin in which they are staying for the purpose of tourism, which led to the head of the family is seriously injured and was taken to the hospital. ”
Mirwais added, “While we condemn these repeated racist attacks against some tourists and residents of the Iraqi community, we call on the Turkish government to open an investigation into the circumstances of this incident, and to punish the criminals.”
He called on the Iraqi diplomatic mission to “follow up the case with the institutions responsible for the investigation to reach the judiciary, and coordinate with the government authorities in Turkey to prevent a recurrence of this in the future.”
