3.1 magnitude Earthquake hits northern Iraq

The Directorate of Meteorology and Seismic Monitoring in the Kurdistan Region announced today, Friday, that an earthquake has hit the Banjawin district of Sulaymaniyah Governorate.

“An earthquake measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale occurred at 7:26 am this morning in Banjawin district,” the directorate said in a statement, according to the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan website.

The directorate added, “The tremor is 18 km away from Banjawin district and is 8 km deep.”
