Eid-ul-Ghadeer (Ghadir) is a Shia Muslim festival that celebrates the appointment of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib, Muhammad’s cousin and son-in-law, as the Prophet’s successor. The festival takes its name from the place where the Prophet Muhammad has made this announcement, the Pond (Ghadeer) of Khumm.
