A major operation was launched in the Rutba desert to hunt down the remnants of ISIS, on Wednesday.
A statement by the Security Media Cell, of which Al-Ghadeer received a copy, stated that, according to accurate intelligence information, and based on the efforts and reconnaissance of the Federal Intelligence and Investigation Agency in the Ministry of Interior, and with planning and under the supervision of the Joint Operations Command, units of the Iraqi army, the Counter-Terrorism Service and the Rapid Response Squad, at dawn today, began implementing A large-scale security operation in the Rutba desert within the Anbar Operations Sector, with air support from the Air Force, Army Aviation and the International Coalition’s aviation.”
The statement added that the operation comes “to pursue the remnants of ISIS terrorist gangs, search for their hideouts, and to cleanse areas within the sector of responsibility, and we will provide you with the details later.”
A security source confirmed to Al-Ghadeer, that Lieutenant-General Abdul-Amir Al-Shamri, deputy commander of the joint operations, arrived in Anbar province to supervise the operation.
