The vicinity of the Palace of Justice in Beirut, specifically the Tayouneh area, where protesters gather to head towards the sit-in against Judge Tariq Al-Bitar, witnessed heavy shooting.
The protesters had called to carry out a sit-in against the investigating judge in the Beirut port explosion, Judge Tariq Al-Bitar, and they had begun to gather in the Tayouneh area in preparation for heading towards the Palace of Justice in Beirut, where the sit-in is being held.
The protesters were shot, who in turn responded to the sources of fire, while ambulances came after receiving information about a number of injuries, while B7 shells were heard.
The Lebanese army also sent large reinforcements towards the Tayouneh area after an exchange of fire between gunmen in the Tayouneh area.
Security sources told “Reuters” that one person was killed and five wounded as a result of the exchange of fire.
Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati called for an extraordinary meeting of the Central Security Council this afternoon.
The Lebanese Army Command announced in a statement that while protesters headed to the Adliya area, they were exposed to bursts of fire in the Tayouneh area – Badaro. An armed man is on the roads and in the direction of anyone who shoots from anywhere else.”
President Michel Aoun made contacts with Mikati, the Ministers of Defense and Interior, and the Army Commander and followed up with them the developments of the security situation in light of the events that took place in the Tayouneh area and its suburbs, in order to address the situation in preparation for the necessary action and restore calm to the region.
