An American aircraft has crash-landed with 21 people on board in a field near an airport west of Downtown Houston in proximity to Brookshire. One person sustained minor injuries in the crash.
Authorities said the McDonnell Douglas MD-87 rolled through a fence and caught fire in a field while doing damage to the power lines.
According to Press TV, the plane, which was headed to Boston, was attempting to depart from Houston Executive Airport in Brookshire near Katy on Tuesday.
All 21 people aboard the plane, including 18 passengers and three crew members, were evacuated safely, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will conduct an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
The FAA will cooperate and assist the NTSB in their investigation.
Aviation and aircraft maintenance experts will now examine a number of issues, ranging from fuel contamination, mechanical problems and issues related with loading, to determine the exact cause(s) of the crash.
The McDonnell Douglas MD-87 plane has a 172-seat capacity and a twin-engine jet.
A local official said he believed the plane was chartered by the passengers to Boston for Game 4 of the American League Championship Series.
The Houston Astros were scheduled to play against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on Tuesday.
In the meantime, the plane crash had disrupted a power line causing a power-cut in 1,806 homes in the area. Technicians were restoring the electricity to their homes.
