Israeli forces have violently attacked Palestinian demonstrators during a national ceremony for Prophet Muhammad’s (Blessings of God upon him and his progeny) birthday anniversary in the occupied East al-Quds, leaving dozens of people injured and arresting as many others.
Media reports said the clashes took place on Tuesday when Palestinians gathered for a second day in a row at the al-Aqsa Mosque’s Bab al-Amoud Gate, which is also known as the Damascus Gate.
The violence saw Israeli forces firing stun grenades and tear gas canisters to disperse the Palestinians, who were celebrating the birthday anniversary of Prophet Muhammad.
Police cannons also repeatedly sprayed foul-smelling skunk water over the streets leading to the Damascus Gate and the surrounding areas in order to prevent further gatherings.
Local media circulated videos on social networks that showed the brutality of the Israeli forces as they attacked Palestinians at the site, which led to the arrest of at least 20 people, including children.
Palestinian Red Crescent medics reported treating 17 wounded Palestinians around the Damascus Gate area on Tuesday. The first-aid organization said 10 were hospitalized, while the rest were treated on the site.
Health officials said at least 55 Palestinians had over the past two days been injured in clashes with the Israeli regime forces in the occupied East al-Quds during the Muslim holiday commemorating the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (Blessings of God upon him and his progeny).
Over the past days, there has been mounting anger among Palestinians over the desecration of graves in a historic Muslim cemetery near the occupied Old City, parts of which are being converted into a park in order to make way for Israeli settlers to have better access to the city.
