Today, Wednesday, the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, Judge Jalil Adnan Khalaf, announced that he had received nearly 1,400 appeals from candidates who objected to the results of the general poll, confirming the start of looking into complaints and appeals.
Khalaf said in a statement received by “Al-Ghadeer”, that “after the announcement by the Electoral Commission on October 16, 2021 that calculating the results of the general election was completed and the period of appeals against these results ended on October 19, we started, since this morning, October 20, an important stage in the electoral process, which is to look into the Appeals after the expiry of the legal period for their submission, which we directed to facilitate expediting their receipt and registration, and we allowed the submission of supporting documents later and for a period of three days, in our belief in the necessity of receiving all appeals and to facilitate the exercise of the right of appeal by the objecting candidates.
He added, “During this period, we received the nearly 1,400 appeals, and the Commission will consider the appeals submitted by those objecting to the results in accordance with the law, and the Council will consider the attached evidence and if the appeals are proven to be true with evidence, we will open the contested stations in accordance with Article 38 ( First) of the Elections Law No. (9) of 2020, and the votes of these stations will be counted and counted manually in the presence of representatives of the competing candidates, and in light of this, a preliminary decision that can be appealed will be issued before the Judicial Authority for Elections in the Supreme Judicial Council, and the Commission will continue to review appeals with the same mechanism and procedures during The next few days until all of them are finished.”
Khalaf continued, “The Commission announces the end of the process of matching the fingerprints of voters in private and public voting, and in less than the legal period stipulated in Article (39) Fifth C of the Elections Law, and the violator will be referred to the competent courts in accordance with legal procedures.
He stated, “We affirm once again that the Electoral Commission stands at the same distance from everyone and that the presence of judges in this institution is only so that the Commission is a faithful protector of everyone’s voices, and that the stage of complaints and appeals is no less important than the other stages, and we will deal with them in all honesty, diligence and professionalism. and independence until the final results are ratified.
