The director of the Dhi Qar Antiquities Department, Amer Abdul Razzaq, revealed, on Tuesday, a serious trend by the central and local government in the province to develop the archaeological city of Ur and preserve the importance of its cultural history, while announcing the increase in the number of foreign tourists to the archaeological city.
Abdul Razzaq said in a press statement that “the Governorate Antiquities Directorate is coordinating with the local government in Dhi Qar Governorate and the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers to preserve the historical character of the ancient city of Ur in the final designs for its development.”
He added, “The number of foreign tourists to the ancient city of Ur has increased during the past few days,” noting that “there is a wide development campaign that the ancient city is witnessing in cooperation with international organizations.”
Abdul Razzaq pointed out that “there are companies working on preparing a special program to visit Dhi Qar governorate for their stay for two days or more in the governorate.”
