Al-Amiri to EU Ambassador: UN envoy is interfering in the elections as if she the head of IHEC

The leader of the Al-Fateh Alliance, Mr. Hadi Al-Amiri, confirmed today, Wednesday, that the United Nations envoy to Iraq, Jeanine Plasschaert, is interfering in the elections and their results as if she is the head of the High Electoral Commission.

The media office of Al-Amiri said in a statement received by (Al-Ghadeer), that “Al-Amiri received in his office in Baghdad, today, Wednesday, the Ambassador of the European Union in Iraq, Mr. Phil Variola.”

The statement added that “the concern for the democratic path is the main reason for our demands for fair elections and a peaceful transfer of power,” noting that “these elections are the worst since 2003, and proceeding with their fraudulent results in this way is an undermining of the democratic process in Iraq.”

He continued, “We have great cooperation and a good relationship with the United Nations mission, which we believe in its positive role, but our confidence is beginning to be shaken due to the violations committed by the current head of the mission, Mrs. Jenin Plasschaert, who interferes in the elections and their results as if she is the head of the High Commission, but rather as a High Commissioner, and Iraq has not and will not accept any High Commissioner and must abide by its specific duties.”

Al-Amiri explained that “the sit-ins of the masses protesting the falsification of the election results and the theft of their votes are the most peaceful and disciplined since 2003.”

For his part, the Ambassador of the European Union to Iraq, Phil Variola, said: “There is a good performance in managing the technical and technical issues of the elections, but this does not mean that there is no fraud.”

Ambassador Variola added: All appeals submitted must be considered in all seriousness, welcoming all legal options, stressing that “the stability of Iraq is very important for European countries.”
