Hundreds of residents of Wasit governorate demonstrated in front of Wasit thermal power station in Zubaidiyeh district in protest against the lack of electricity supply in the governorate. “Ahmed Al-Shammari,” one of the demonstrators, told the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA) that we demonstrated in front of the Wasit Thermal Power Station in protest of the governorate’s poor supply of electricity. Adding, in the event that Wasit does not get its just share of the electricity, we will have to separate the Wasit thermal power station from the national grid. It is noteworthy that the Wasit Thermal Power Station, located in Zubaidi district of Wasit Governorate (180 km) south of Baghdad, was started by the “Shanghai” Electricity Company on May 1, 2010, with an estimated production capacity of 2540 (megawatts), which constitutes 70 percent of the electricity production for the Central Need.
