On Tuesday, the Minister of Environment, Jassem Al-Falahi, drew attention to Iraq’s seriousness with the use of “industrial rain” technology, pointing out the need for 3 factors to make this experiment a success.
In an interview with the official newspaper, Al-Falahi said, “Industrial seeding is one of the things that the world has turned to in order to confront the impact of climatic changes such as drought, desertification and dust storms.”
He added, “There are great efforts and research until this moment by several countries in the world,” noting that “Iraq is one of the first countries to experiment with artificial rain, but so far, with all global indicators, there is an important feasibility account in this process.”
And he indicated that “there are countries that do such a topic not as a way of their daily use to limit the effects and climate changes, but it can be used as experiments, and there are research issues to meet a challenge at a certain time.”
He continued, “The Department of Forestry and Combating Desertification in the Ministry of Agriculture has not yet determined a technique through which it can rely entirely on artificial rain, because it requires specifications related to humidity, appropriate weather conditions and wind direction, which guarantee the success of the experiment.”
He pointed out that “generalizing the experience of artificial seeding is linked to advances in technologies,” adding that “Iraq is very serious about using this technology in the future.”
