Jamal Rushdi, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, said in a statement received by (Al-Ghadir), that “the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, is following with more concern the successive and dangerous developments on the Iraqi arena, and that he calls on all Iraqi parties to give priority to the national interest over any considerations. another to bypass the current situation, which poses a threat to the stability of the country.”
According to the statement, the Secretary-General warned against the situation in Iraq sliding into more violence, chaos and bloodshed, stressing the need for restraint and directing the demonstrators from different groups to stay away from all armed manifestations and to avoid bloodshed.
He pointed out that “the Arab League is following all the measures taken by the Iraqi government in order to maintain civil peace and maintain security and stability in the country.”
