The leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, on Tuesday, apologizes to the Iraqi people and directs the withdrawal of his supporters
Al-Sadr said in a press conference followed by Al-Ghadeer: “It saddens me a lot what happens in Iraq, and I apologize to the Iraqi people and that they are the only ones affected by what is happening.”
He added, “The homeland is now captive to corruption and violence, and we had hoped that there would be peaceful protests, not weapons,” noting that “the revolution that was marred by violence is not a revolution.”
He continued, “I am now criticizing the revolution of the Sadrist movement, and I thank the security forces, the popular mobilization and the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, who stood neutral.”
He pointed out that “Iraqi blood is forbidden, and directed the withdrawal of the Sadrist movement from Parliament within one hour.”
