Massive fire reported at petrochemical plant in port of Haifa

An alleged malfunction has caused a fire in an electrical transformer at the Carmel Olefins plant in the city of Haifa in the northwestern part of the occupied Palestinian territories.

According to reports, fire and rescue teams were called Tuesday morning to the Bezan complex following receiving calls about smoke rising from the area of the Carmel Olefins plant in Haifa.

Many forces from the Kiryot and Haifa stations were dispatched to the scene and joined the emergency team at the plant which worked to extinguish the transformer with the help of fire extinguishers. No casualty was reported.

Carmel Olefins is the Israeli sole manufacturer of petrochemical products that are used as raw materials for the plastics industry.
