The Iraqi National Intelligence Service (INIS) announced on Tuesday the arrest of leaders belonging to ISIS terrorist group in a non-neighboring country, according to a press statement issued by the INIS.
The statement mentioned that a qualitative intelligence operation outside Iraq resulted in thwarting a terrorist operation and arresting a number of ISIS leaders involved in committing terrorist crimes in Iraq and abroad.
“The INIS officers succeeded in tracking down these terrorists in more than a country and managed to arrest them in a non-neighboring country, and transport them to Iraq to be handed over to the Iraqi judiciary,” the statement explained.
“While the INIS is achieving these great victories over terrorism and terrorists, the INIS promises the honorable Iraqi people to defend Iraq’s security through qualitative proactive intelligence efforts that guarantee security and achieve stability throughout our beloved country,” the statement added.
In 2017, Iraq announced the elimination of ISIS group after it occupied about a third of the country following nearly three and a half years of confrontations before the Iraqi security forces take full control of the territories ISIS occupied.
Although the Iraqi security forces are imposing full control over the Iraqi lands since 2017, some hiding ISIS terrorists are still active in some areas of the country, but the Iraqi forces carry out air strikes and targeting operations against the remaining terrorists belonging to ISIS.
