Israel fires missiles at Syria’s capital, injuring two soldiers

Israel has carried out fresh missile attacks on the Syrian capital Damascus, as the occupying regime continues its acts of aggression against the country.

Syria’s official SANA news agency, citing a military source, reported that several Israeli missiles targeted areas near Damascus from the direction of the occupied Golan Heights early Thursday, with loud explosions heard over the capital city.

The military source said Syrian air defenses confronted the Israeli missiles and shot down a number of them, adding that the airstrikes have inflicted material losses and two soldiers were injured.

Syria’s Defense Ministry later confirmed the attacks, without providing any details about the targets.

“At around 01:20 am (10:20 GMT), the Israeli enemy carried out an aerial aggression from the direction of the occupied Golan Heights, targeting several positions in the vicinity of Damascus,” it said.

The assaults were launched a week after an Israeli airstrike hit the international airport in the northwestern Syrian city of Aleppo, causing some “material damage” to it and putting it out of service.

Syria’s foreign ministry condemned the Israeli strike as a “double crime,” noting that it targeted a civilian airport and a main channel for the flow of aid to areas hit by the February devastating earthquake.

The strike was the third Israeli attack on Aleppo airport in six months.

The Israeli regime frequently violates Syrian sovereignty by targeting military positions inside the country, especially those of the resistance movement Hezbollah, which has played a vital role in helping the Syrian army fight foreign-backed terrorists.

Israel mostly keeps quiet about its attacks on the Syrian territories, which many view as a knee-jerk reaction to the Syrian government’s increasing success in confronting terrorism.

The Tel Aviv regime has been a main supporter of terrorist groups that have battled the government of President Bashar al-Assad since foreign-backed militancy erupted in Syria in early 2011.

Syria has repeatedly complained to the UN over Israeli assaults, urging the Security Council to take action against Tel Aviv’s crimes. The calls have, however, fallen on deaf ears.
