Russian forces stop Ukraine sabotage group near border

Russian security forces stopped a Ukrainian sabotage team that attempted to infiltrate the border region of Bryansk, officials say.

Bryansk governor Alexander Bogomaz said Tuesday that Russian soldiers and security services stopped the Ukrainian group near the village of Kurkovichi.

“There were no casualties,” Bogomaz said on social media.

Ukrainian shelling in the region, he said, had killed a farm animal and damaged industrial buildings.

In May, A Ukrainian “sabotage group” entered Russian territory in the Grayvoron district.

The raiders opened fire with mortars and artillery on residential and administrative buildings and civilian infrastructure, Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said back then.

Russian air-defense forces reportedly shot down drones over the region. Moscow later said it was carrying out a counterterrorism operation.

A similar cross-border incursion also occurred in the same region in June.

Russia’s Belgorod province borders Ukraine’s Luhansk, Sumy and Kharkiv regions.

Ukraine has denied responsibility for the attacks, blaming instead Russian partisan groups for the assaults.
