An Arab newspaper, on Friday, the secret of a US military unit called “Task Force” and its function to protect the crews of the US embassy in Baghdad, pointing out that this force is moving inside Iraqi cities “unaffected by censorship” and is authorized to fire live ammunition.
Unlike other embassies and foreign missions in Iraq, US embassy staff in Baghdad now have the largest strength among their counterparts, known as the US Task Force, the name at least common to Iraqis.
The newspaper pointed out that US officials do not discuss or address the forces charged with the protection of Americans working in Iraq at the media level, which has increased the number and processing since the US-Iranian escalation in the region, nearly two months ago, an Iraqi official said.
“It is a force authorized to use live ammunition and respond to various threats that may affect US diplomatic personnel or nationals working in stabilizing Iraqi liberated cities or participating in some infrastructure rehabilitation operations such as health and education,” the official said.
