Johnson holds talks with Merkel and Macron to save “Brexit”

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is due to hold talks in the next few days with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel that will focus on saving Brexit.

He will meet German and French leaders this week in a bid to break through negotiations between London and the European Union on the terms of the withdrawal of the United Kingdom, ahead of the summit of the “G7”, which starts Saturday in the resort of Biarritz in southern France and will last two days.

A French presidency official told Reuters on Sunday that Macron will receive Johnson at a working dinner to be held at the Elysee Palace next Thursday, noting that the negotiations between the two leaders will also deal with “Brexit”, the files of Syria and Iran.

For her part, Merkel has confirmed on Sunday that she will receive Johnson next Wednesday, stressing the need to continue the dialogue between London and the European Union in search of “good solutions.”

The German chancellor expressed her country’s readiness for the scenario “Brexit without agreement”, in the event of the failure of the United Kingdom and the European Union to coordinate the criteria for the exit of London, vowing to make efforts to reach agreements in difficult negotiations until the last day.

Since taking office in July, Johnson has taken a tough stance on Brexit, expressing his willingness to take the country out of the EU on October 31 in any form.
