A powerful typhoon in the southern Japanese island of Okinawa on Saturday caused power outages for more than 15,000 homes and delayed hundreds of flights.
Typhoon Tabah, with strong winds of up to 180 kph, is heading north and is expected to continue its advance across the sea separating South Korea from western Japan.
Japan’s Meteorological Office issued warnings of torrential rains, floods and a major tsunami, while Okinawa authorities issued evacuation orders for some 334,000 people.
Officials said at least 18 people were injured, while the power company in Okinawa announced late on Saturday that the current has returned to about 7,800 houses, while it is still cut off about 9,200 houses. It had previously announced that the outage affected 17 thousand houses.
Cyclone Tabah follows Hurricane Vaxay, which hit Tokyo earlier this month, with strong winds that disrupted power outages, disrupted air traffic and hampered preparations for the Rugby Cup.
Vaxay caused power outages for more than a week for tens of thousands of Tokyo suburbs.
