UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Mark Lokoc accused the coalition countries of obstructing humanitarian access to civilians in Yemen.
Lokok called on donor countries to provide regular injections of foreign currency in Yemen, which would keep the exchange rate stable, and help to bring the prices of food and other goods to reasonable levels.
“The indicators of the economy in Yemen should be concerned for everyone because they are moving towards real famine,” he said in a speech to the UN Security Council on Thursday.
He pointed out that Yemen imports almost everything, which also increased consumer prices more than doubled, which prevented commodities reaching millions of people, indicating that there may be food in the markets, but fewer people can afford it.
