Trump demands the attorney general declare his innocence from Zelinsky’s call

President Donald Trump has asked Attorney General William Barr to publicly declare that the president did not violate the law during his telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zielinski.

A similar request was sent to the US Department of Justice on September 25, when a copy of the content of the telephone conversation between the presidents of the United States and Ukraine was published, the newspaper quoted its sources as saying.

Barr refused to comply with Trump’s request, which the White House president recently confided to close associates, although the attorney general and the president are still in good relations, the newspaper said.

A major scandal erupted in the United States last September over a telephone conversation between Trump and Zelinsky, which concluded with the announcement by the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives to begin holding the president accountable.

According to Trump’s opponents, during the call he tried to persuade Zelinsky to launch an investigation in Ukraine into the activities of Hunter Biden, the son of his potential presidential rival Joe Biden, in return for financial and military assistance to Kiev.
